EXERCISE Problem - # 1: 12 x 19. Find the partial products and the product. Math Tip - When using Base-10 Math multiplication method - # 1, before you multiply any given set of whole numbers, always separate the Base-10 Number from the multiplier or the multiplicand, then proceed to multiply from left to right. For Example: 12 x 19 (12 = 10 + 2) x 19.
Written Solution: (It is as simple as A B C.) First Step - Separate the Base-10 Number (10) from the multiplier which is (12) = (10 + 2); thus (10 + 2) becomes the multiplier for the problem (12 x 19). Second Step - Multiply (10 x 19) = ( ) the partial product. Third Step - Multiply (2 x 19) = ( ) the partial product, or multiply (2) x (10 + 9) = ( ); and then add the partial products ( + ) = ( ) the product. Math Tip - To increase accuracy and speed when adding partial products, always round off the largest partial product to the next largest hundred. (100, 200, 300 etc.) |
